Here we have a matching number engine block and cylinder head. The block itself is stamped with the production date 7-9-61. There is an interesting other stamp on the block:
FF and C17523. It seems another number below was removed and C17523 is stamped over.
After some research in the books from Philip Porter and regarding the E-Type Forum UK it seems it was a common practice at the end of 1961 because the factory ran short of E-Type blocks, catches some blocks from the MK9 productions line and stamped the C17523 over.
On the photos with the cylinder head you see some remains of the color „pumkin orange“ which was used for some early „Flat Floor“ cars as we have it here.
The JCNA Judging Guide says:
„CYLINDER HEAD COLOR
Pumpkin colored through at LEAST engine number R-2518-9“
So as we see R2167-9 on the cylinder head we are correct with the „pumpkin orange“ head.
